What Kids Jiu-Jitsu Is

Jiu-jitsu is grappling: kids learn positions, holds and escapes on the mat, with no punching and no kicking. When a hold gets tight, they tap (pat their partner or the mat), and everyone stops right away.

We teach it no-gi, which means regular athletic clothes instead of a martial arts uniform. Coach Chris runs both the kids class and our adult No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu class.

Nobody spars in the kids program. A coach supervises every minute and partners are matched by size and experience.

Why Jiu-Jitsu Works For Kids

No getting hit

There is no striking at all, which makes it a good fit for kids who are nervous about contact.

Staying calm under pressure

Kids practice getting out from under a partner. Staying calm and thinking is the whole skill.

Problem solving

Every position has an answer. Kids learn to figure out the next move instead of panicking.
