What Kids Muay Thai Is

Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand, a kind of kickboxing that uses hands, shins and knees. Kids learn punches, kicks thrown with the shin, knees, and clinch work (controlling a partner up close), all on pads and with matched partners.

At 60 minutes it is the longest kids class we run. Our adult Muay Thai program runs the same nights at 7:00 PM, so parents can train too.

Nobody spars in the kids program. A coach supervises every minute, partners are matched by size and experience, and protective gear is worn for every partner drill.

What Kids Work On

Kicks and knees

Kicking with the shin, not the foot, and keeping balance on one leg. It is harder than it looks.

Conditioning

Sixty minutes of pads and drills builds real fitness, without anyone calling it a workout.

Self-control

Hard on the pads, gentle with partners. Kids learn when to turn it up and when to turn it down.

Kids Muay Thai Questions

Does my child need shin guards?

Not for the free class. Kids on a free trial can borrow gloves and shin guards. If they keep training, we recommend their own gloves first, then shin guards (unless you already have some). Ask a coach before you buy.

Will my child get kicked?

No sparring in the kids program. Kicks go into pads. Partner drills are controlled, matched by size, and supervised by a coach.

Is Muay Thai OK for a beginner?

Yes. Kids start with stance and the basic kick, and build from there.

Do you have kids Muay Thai near Burlington?

We are in Gibsonville, about 15 minutes from downtown Burlington and a few minutes from Elon.

What ages is it for?

Ages 6 to 11.
