Kids MMA · Ages 6–11 · Gibsonville, NC
Striking, takedowns and ground work for kids 6 to 11, Mondays at 5:30 PM, coached by Coach Mike, a professional MMA fighter. No gear needed for the free class.
Free first class · No sparring in the kids program · No contract
MMA stands for mixed martial arts. In Kids MMA, children learn three skills in one 45-minute class: striking (punches and kicks on pads), takedowns (safely bringing a partner down to the mat) and ground work (holding a position, and getting back up).
The class is run by Coach Mike “Duckman,” owner of The Sweat Lab and a professional MMA fighter, the same coach who runs our adult MMA program.
Nobody spars in the kids program. A coach supervises every minute, partners are matched by size and experience, and protective gear is worn for every partner drill.
Kids MMA covers more skills than any other class on the kids schedule, which is good for kids who get bored doing one thing.
Takedown drills start with how to fall and get back up without getting hurt. That is useful far outside the gym.
Ground work teaches kids to stay calm and get back to their feet when someone is on top of them.

Not the way we teach it. There is no sparring in the kids program. Kids drill on pads and with matched partners, at a controlled pace, with a coach watching every minute.
Not for the free class. Kids on a free trial can borrow gloves and shin guards. If they keep training, we recommend their own gloves first, then shin guards (unless you already have some). Ask a coach before you buy.
Yes. Every drill starts from the basics, so no experience is needed.
Kids MMA runs on Mondays. Kids who want more pair it with Kids Boxing, Kids Muay Thai or Kids Jiu-Jitsu on the same membership.
