No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu · Gibsonville, NC
Grappling for adults with Coach Chris, Wednesday and Friday at 6:45 PM. Beginners welcome, and your first class is free. Minutes from Elon and Burlington.
First class free · No contract · No uniform to buy · 106 E Railroad Avenue, Unit H, Gibsonville, NC
Jiu-jitsu is grappling: no punches and no kicks. You learn to control someone on the ground, get out from underneath them, and finish with a hold that makes them tap out. Tapping, a quick pat on your partner or the mat, means “stop,” and everyone stops the moment you do.
No-gi means you train in normal athletic clothes instead of the heavy cotton uniform called a gi. It is the style used in MMA and in most submission grappling tournaments, and it is the easiest way to start, because there is nothing to buy.
If you already train MMA here, this is where your ground game gets real time. If you have never done anything like it, that is fine: no experience is needed. Kids have their own class too: Kids Jiu-Jitsu.
Movement drills that are also jiu-jitsu skills: shrimping (scooting your hips away), rolling, and getting up off the mat safely.
The coach shows a position or a technique, then you practice it with a partner at an easy pace. Your partner is helping you learn, not trying to beat you.
Live practice is called rolling. It is always optional. On your first night you can sit it out, go light, or just watch.

Yes. The Wednesday and Friday class is where beginners start, and no experience is needed.
A t-shirt or rash guard (a tight athletic shirt) and shorts or leggings with no zippers or pockets. Bring water. Trim your fingernails and toenails and take off rings and earrings. A mouthguard is a good idea if you own one.
It is a contact sport, so bumps happen. You control the risk: tap early, and nobody holds a move after a tap. Live rounds are always optional.
MMA mixes striking and grappling. Jiu-jitsu is only grappling, so nobody is hitting you. Plenty of members do both, and All Access covers both.
